XLTM Meeting Minutes for November 19, 2006 (by Bing Wang)

The following members attended the meeting: Bing, Brick, Cindy, Cunlin, Eric, Irene, Jenny, Jin, Joby, Josh, Len, Lillian, Liqun, Mei, Minghui, Ning, Robin, and Stan. A new guest also joined our meeting.

Liqun was as the Toastmaster of the day. He started the meeting on time at 12:45.

Jin gave a very relaxing “Thought of the day” by telling what went through his mind when he was watching cloud in his backyard on the day before. He might not realize the luxury he had.

Joby presented the word "fantabulous", which means extremely fine or desirable; excellent; wonderful. Almost everyone used this word in the meeting, some of the used it multiple times, which was never seen before in this club.

Minghui delivered a new version of the “chicken crossing road”. Al Gore's Answer: I invented the chicken. George Bush's Answer: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is with us or it is against us. Bill Clinton's Answer: I did not cross the road with THAT chicken.

Ning was the first speaker with a speech titled "How to motivate your children" based on Competent communicator manual (CCM) #4. She gave many examples, such as making “deals”, awards towards pre-set achievements, etc. Many of us are parents with teenager children, we personally appreciated her thoughts and efforts.

Robin presented “Benefits of green tea” by also following CCM #4. She listed many benefits of drinking green tea – reducing high blood pressure and body fat, cancer prevention, lowering cholesterol level, etc. So ladies and gentlemen, green tea please! At the end, she answered questions from the audience.

Irene put up another show with power point and ski poles! It was titled ‘Why not?” based on CCM #5 – your body speaks. She gave us a comprehensive review of her personal ski experiences over the years and the lessons she learned. She certainly acted out for many ski tips! It was a well-rehearsed speech and it suited the speech purpose well. However, to truly appreciate her graceful moves you have to be on the slopes with her – she had been seen at the foot of a long and steep mogul in Vail Colorado last Spring with trailing ski gears littered around, you could only image what you had missed J.

Break at 1:25 pm, then the meeting resumed at 1:35 pm.

Len hosted the table topic session, asked the following questions:

What is your family plan for this coming Thanksgiving – answered by Bing.

Which is your most favored holiday – answered by Cunlin.

Do you believe Angels – answered by Minghui.

What make you go for your DTM – answered by Mei.

What lessons have you learned from the past election – answered by Jenny.

How much support will Senator Obama get for his seeking for presidency – answered by Brick.

How U.S. should deal with countries posing threats - answered by Joby.

What is your favored movie - answered by Cindy.

How to deal with jet lags - answered by Eric.

How to break away from dependence of imported oil - answered by Stan.

How soon is it possible to get personalized medication - answered by Josh.

I would like to say that Len certainly prepared his role well, he called the speakers first, then gave the question. Most of them were highly customized for the speakers.

Bing hosted the general evaluation session. Brick, Mei and Cunlin evaluated the speeches given by Ning, Robin and Irene respectively.  Stan gave a detailed grammarian report and Jenny gave the timer report. After evaluating the whole meeting and praised everyone’s efforts, Bing gave a quick report about the fall conference. He also made a motion to award Len a new gavel, which Bing and Mei brought back from the fall TM conference for our presidential distinguished club award (2005-2006). Len was the president of that period, and our club already has two gavels - one was received at club chartering (2001), the other one was awarded for the 2003-2004 achievement. The motion was passed. At the end, Bing promoted the coming Chicago Thanksgiving parade on 11/23.

Best speaker went to Irene.

Josh led the club business session. After open discussion, we decided to host the club annual holiday party on 12/9 (Saturday) at

Sun Shui Fine Chinese & Sushi

155 W Rand Rd

Arlington Heights, IL 60004

(847) 870-8888

Josh announced that he would like to invite everyone to his house after the party.

The meeting ended just before 2:30 pm.
