Thought Of the Day

Josh

Involvement: to involve with XLTM activities by participating various club roles, you’ll create a path to success; Minhui is our role model by winning the 1st place in the area speech evaluation tournament last Friday. Josh urged everyone to sign up the agenda sheet and push to achieve a higher goal.

Word Master

Jin

Procrastinate: put off things due to own habit

Examples: 1. “He did not want to write the letter and procrastinated for days”; 2. “He procrastinated the matter until it was too late.”

Dictionary definition: v. postpone, put off until a later time; delay, hold back, defer

Funny Bone

Jenny

A little boy wanted $100 and prayed for two weeks with no reply; he then wrote a letter to God asking for $100.  The letter was delivered by the post office to Present Bush; Bush was impressed and asked the secretary to send $5 and thought it would be a lot for a little boy; upon receiving the money, the boy was delighted so he wrote back to God, thanking him for his generosity; he also wrote that for some reason the money was sent via Washington DC therefore the government, as usual, had striped off $95.

Speakers/ Evaluator

Speaker 1

Serve and Grow (Ice Breaker Speech): worked for GE customer service for the last 16 years, supporting patient monitoring system used in hospitals for nurses to monitor baby deliveries, Mark talked about the three aspects of service (1) reaches beyond the obvious – the customer is not only the hospital and nurses, the service also touches many patients as well; (2) help others the way you like to be helped and learn from the patients; (3) by serving the nurses, also set the level of service expectations for himself.  Mark also touched on the four aspects of personal growth: (1) spiritual and mental growth; (2) growing while learning; (3) helping customers to grow; and finally (4) growing one’s own business. He concluded that he views service as a privilege, not a burden.

1.       Congratulated Minhui for his 1st place winning in area evaluation contest

2.       Need v.p. of membership - Bing volunteered to be the backup until someone steps up to take the official role.

3.       In the next a few meetings, the club officers will talk about the expectations for members in their respective areas. Today will be Elena and Irene.

Elena (VP Education)

1.       Since it is too much work for one person to accomplish all tasks, Elena would like to have a backup to print out the weekly agenda, and distribute the agenda in time for the club meeting.  Solution: Elena will send the agenda to the Toastmaster; the Toastmaster will then print enough copies for the club meeting

2.       No change of the agenda after Friday, please.

3.       Members please check out the competent leadership manual; our club agenda format has changed to include the Competent Leadership evaluation, each item can be counted to collect points for the club.

4.       Need mentors for new members; also use the competent leadership manual as part of the mentoring process.

Irene (Secretary)

Suggested that club meeting minutes will be composed by the General Evaluator.  Meeting Minute template can be downloaded via XLTM website (or email) to help speed up the composition.  Suggestion accepted by all members.

Cunlin (former XLTM club officer; former Chinese School Board member)

XLTM is using the classroom from XL Chinese School without charge for as long as the club exists. One way to return the favor is to help the school in some events.  XLTM already offer the Toastmaster Youth Leadership free class for the past two years.  In addition, this year the school would like to get some volunteers to host the Prudential promotional seminars.  Such seminars will benefit the Chinese School by receiving a $1,2000.00 cash donation from Prudential.  Please talk to Cunlin and Jin if you are interested.
