The Panda GangReviewsThese Arms (CDS) BDI RecordingsThe five songs on this EP are pleasingly unpolished, often chaotic, and draw liberally on a range of influences - not least sixties soul and R&B. The vocals of Brent Thorley are eerily similar to those of Darren Hanlon at times, giving the band the sound of a soulful Hefner, which is no bad thing. On the wonderful Tiptoes the guitars are a touch more restrained than elsewhere, allowing the vocal harmonies to come to the fore. This is where the band really seem to be at their best, and just as it seems that it can't possibly get any better the loungey flute solo kicks in, and it does. |
