The Trembling Blue Stars

Reviews

Broken By Whispers (CD) Shinkansen
Back in 1990 Sarah records and Sub Pop were at opposite ends of the indie music spectrum, with Sarah's gentle guitar pop and DIY ethic regularly ridiculed by a UK music press that had been won over by the sound of Seattle. But Sub Pop are now the unlikely US distributors of the latest recording by the Trembling Blue Stars, remnants of Sarah's flagship band the Field Mice. Bob Wratten continues to make the faultless pop that made the Field Mice and Northern Picture Library firm indie favourites, with tender acoustic moments and upbeat pop vying for your attention. The songs are as deeply personal as ever, and this record will only serve to build on the interest in Wratten that was renewed by Shinkansen's recent Field Mice compilation.
