Untitled (CD) Sandwich Records
The untitled debut by the Licketts, a side project of members of Transona 5 and Go Metric USA, contains nine untitled tracks, with not a single word of description or explanation printed on the CD or sleeve. As the record moves from each instrumental track to the next it becomes increasingly difficult to believe that the same two people are responsible for the vast array of sounds here. Electronica and exotica, kitsch and country all sit side by side on a record which takes seemingly incongruous ingredients and manages to distil something truly remarkable. It is difficult to draw direct comparisons with other bands, although the sound is perhaps most reminiscent of Broadcast, who also sit somewhere between dance and indie in this way.
