Lesson 10 - The Augmented Triad
Augmented Triad

The augmented triad is not used as a diatonic chord in any major or minor key. It primarily appears in music as a decorative chord and adds instability.

Lower Interval: Major Third
Upper Interval: Major Third
Outside Interval: Augmented Fifth
The inclusion of two major third intervals in the triad creates multiple tonal focus. This makes the tonality ambiguous.
