Welcome Akril's ZBS fanpage!
First things first: What is ZBS?
ZBS is a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence since 1972. That’s 30 years as of now! The people of ZBS dedicate themselves to creating adventures in audio. It sounds ordinary at first, but it’s not. The authors travel to whichever country the stories take place and capture the environment on location, so when you listen to the adventure, the sounds of people talking to each other in the background, stray dogs barking or beggars asking for coins put you into the story, and you really feel like you’re there.
It’s kind of like those old books where you control the adventure, except the difference is that here, the only control you have extends to the pressing of the play, stop, fast-forward and rewind buttons. Other than that, your mind is enveloped in the magic of ZBS.
Some of the most popular stories written by Meatball Fulton, one of the people who has stayed with ZBS since day one, are the Jack Flanders Series and the Ruby Series, Jack Flanders taking place in our time and space, the Ruby Series taking place on an entirely different (?) time and place, in the late 21st Century, Summa Nulla, Crossroads of the Galaxy.
There are also other colorful adventures, including audio adaptations of the new and ever-popular Harry Potter books. Some of the stories are either way deep in the darker shadows of humanity, such as Stephen King’s The Mist, or wavering towards the very silly and crazy, as in the all-sung story Dishpan Fantasy.
After nearly 30 years, ZBS hasn’t lost its magic touch or its one mission to continue the spread of awareness through the media. However, the public funds that once sustained the costs of these wonders are becoming fewer and fewer. The only other hope ZBS has is the fandom. I am but a humble fan, but I am willing to do anything to support this amazing guild of audio artists. Help keep this amazing product of humanity growing and become aware of all the worlds mentioned within, greater and lesser than the one you reign in.
NEWS (April 2006): I must apologise to those who still visit this site for not adding anything new to it for such a long time. I'm afraid that I've encountered a lot of real-life commitments that require my attention in addition to my many computer projects. Since I've fallen so far behind in keeping up with descriptions of ZBS's latest adventures (as well as experiencing a general lack of motivation to do so), I probably won't be updating this site anytime in the near future. The design isn't an award-winner, and a complete overhaul would take just a bit more time and dedication than I am willing to undertake at this time. I'm afraid this site will have to remain as a shrine for the history of ZBS through 2003, small but complete. Enjoy it all you like, but don't expect anything new. Sorry, folks.
NEWS (January 2003: Sorry for not updating for such a long time! Not only is Dreams of the Blue Morpho out, but so is Somewhere Next Door to Reality! Both are JF adventures, and both have pages on this site! Check the JF page to take a look at them.
NEWS (June 2002): ZBS has announced that its latest installment in the Jack Flanders Series (a new series, in fact, "Travelling Jack") will be coming out this fall. It is called Dreams of the Blue Morpho, and it set in Costa Rica. Sounds great.
NEWS (January 2002): Happy New Year! I've added buttons that link to non-Jack/Ruby sites that I forgot to put up months ago, including Stars & Stuff, Dinotopia and Land of Enchantment. I also added some new sites, The Maltese Goddess and Little Frieda's Life Lessons.
NEWS (December 2001): I have relocated my site to Brinkster because of some problems with Geocities. Let me know if there are any further problems.
