Ruby meets a mysterious creature who calls himself Marimba Mombo in Kismet, the inflatable, nomadic city of Summa Nulla. He hires her to find the four moon coins of the moon Sonto Lore. The weird thing is, Sonto Lore, the fourth moon of Summa Nulla, was always believed to be a myth. But now, strange things are happening. Emotional disturbances are common and incurable. Things from the dim and distant past of the planet are making reappearances.

As Ruby travels from planet to planet in search of the four coins, she discovers that Summa Nulla is undergoing an evolution. And/Or and the eccentric Earth scientist Nikola Tesla are trying to speed up the evolution, but owing to the far out ideas Tesla continues to come up with, even though he has been dead for eons, will Summa Nulla be the same after this chaos ends, if indeed it does end?

Spliced into four parts with four episodes each, Ruby 4 is the biggest installment in the Ruby series (speaking in terms of the planet on which it takes place). Involving four planets and four adventurers, this quest to find the four moon coins of the mythical fourth moon of Summa Nulla begins to show some repetition after a while (if you know what I mean), but this does little to interfere with the familiar cast of characters, plus several new ones. At first I thought Francois was a reincarnation of Roger Robot from Ruby 3, but now I think he’s just another little piece in the game. Containing some of the funniest moments in ZBS, Ruby 4 is definitely a significant stepping-stone in the prime of the company’s time.
