In the 1920’s, in the years before the stock market crash, a strange phenomena breaks out in the eastern states. Some people can’t explain it, some blame it on the African-Americans, whose religions and cults are starting to show. It begins to spread repidly, and many people are trying to find an antidote to this epidemic known as "jes gru", but others will do everything possible to nourish it and keep it thriving...

Mumbo Jumbo is a fascinating tale by Ishmael Reed, and also in the Kumfstkopf Binaural genre. For a story that spans two cassettes, it is actually quite obscure. This is because ZBS stopped produsing copies of it in the 1980s when Ishmael Reeds discovered that his story had been made into a beautiful, creative audio adaptation without his permission. As a result, Mumbo Jumbo has become a collector's item, and I am lucky to own a copy given to me by my grandmother. My advice to people who want to get a copy of this adventure is to look on ebay or some other online auctioning site.

GREAT NEWS! Disregard that last paragraph! ZBS has re-released Mumbo Jumbo on CD! I'm writing to Mr. Fulton to ask just how this came about!
